About this site
Welcome to The Anaesthesia Vet Academy.
This is a space for clinicians who want to understand anaesthesia more deeply - not simply memorise protocols or follow recipes.
Anaesthesia is not just about what we do. It is about understanding why we do it.
Why does this patient respond differently to the same drug?
Why does blood pressure fall in one case but not another?
Why does ventilation matter beyond the number on the capnograph?
Why is a “normal” value not always reassuring?
The aim of this academy is to provide clear, clinically relevant explanations of the key concepts that underpin anaesthetic decision-making. The focus is on physiology, pharmacology, monitoring, analgesia, ventilation, and perioperative risk - explained in a way that can be applied directly to real patients.
The goal is to move beyond “in the box” thinking.
Rather than relying on fixed protocols, the emphasis is on developing an adaptive, agile clinical mindset - one that allows you to interpret what is happening, anticipate what may happen next, and make thoughtful decisions in response to the patient in front of you.
Anaesthesia becomes safer, more interesting, and more clinically satisfying when we understand the reasoning behind our choices.
Welcome - I’m very pleased to have you here!
